Product Knowledge, Seberapa Penting kah ?

yuniawan on Nov 13th 2008

yuniawan on Nov 3rd 2008

China Rising, China Burning

yuniawan on Sep 8th 2008

China is visible to us everywhere—in the news, in every trip to the store, and in many of our business plans, either as a partner or a competitor.  Yet it is hard to grasp the enormity of the numbers associated with China.  After all, it has never happened before, and it is happening on the other side of the globe.  What does it mean that it is growing three times faster than the United States? That China uses 40% of the world’s concrete and 25% of its steel?  That a rural population equal to the entire US population is migrating from their farms to their cities in the greatest migration in human history?  Here are some impressions from my first trip to try to understand the country that is poised to dominate the world scene for at least the next 50 years.

More… What we saw was both staggering and frightening.  China, once hobbled by poverty and Communist ideology, is rapidly progressing towards its goal of transforming a nation of peasant farmers into a modern, urban country.

Avatars As Communicators Of Emotions

yuniawan on Jul 11th 2008

Current interactive systems enable users to communicate with computers in many ways, but not taking into account emotional communication. A PhD thesis presented at the University of the Basque Country puts forward the use of avatars or virtual Internet personages as an efficient form of non-verbal communication, principally focusing on emotional aspects.

Scientists have been working for decades so that the interaction between people and computers be more natural and intuitive. In fact, a great part of the success or failure of a computer application depends on the user interface. The way in which we communicate with the operating system, for example, has progressed a lot from the time when it was required to write complicated lines of commands on a black and white screen to those with much more intuitive windows. Currently, we have systems designed that combine 3-dimensional graphics, artificial vision and speaking technologies – what are known as multimodal interaction systems. Amongst these, the most common are voice synthesisers and recognition devices that enable the user to communicate with the machine using verbal language.
